Viola Boelscher, Lawyer, MA in Conflict Management, works currently as a senior advisor in the GIZ sector programme: integrating human rights into development cooperation. Her main focus is on human rights and natural resources / business and human rights and peace building. She is co-author of the GIZ paper “Incorporating the Human Rights-Based Approach into Resource Governance Projects in the Context of Technical Cooperation” and supported the BGR-funded study “Human Rights Risks in Mining – A Baseline Study”. She is part of the GIZ/BGR working group, which developed the integrated human rights based approach to resource governance, which was recently implemented in Mauretania.

Prior to her current position in the GIZ, Viola worked for 10 years as a freelance consultant (Iber-Consult) in several African, Latin-American and Asian countries in the area of peace building, human rights and gender. A specific focus of her work was the better connection between peace building and human rights. She lectured in several European and Latin-American Universities about “Mediation and Human Rights”. Her favorite country is still Guatemala, where she lived for five years. Viola worked for several Guatemalan Human Rights NGOs and combined human rights, peace building, gender and climate change.

With the Peacebuilding Forum, we want to provide future-oriented impulses for the development of peacebuilding and strengthen the visibility and importance of the policy field in its entirety.
