Born 1958 in Hagen, Michael Hippler achieved an M.A. in economics at the University of Bochum. He worked in a cooperative movement in Brazil in 1980, finished post graduate studies at the German Development Institute GDI in Berlin, conducted research work for the Ministry of Industry in Somalia in 1983/84, and had short term contracts with German Agro Action and consultancies for GIZ. He joined MISEREOR, the German Episcopal Development Organization, in 1985 as regional desk officer for Southern Africa. Between 2001 and 2004 he served as Head of the Evaluation and Quality Management Unit, and as of 2004 as Head of the Africa/Middle East Department. In 2014 he took up the position as Head of Katholische Zentralstelle as trustee of German Government Funds within MISEREOR. Since 2004 he has been a member of the FriEnt Steering Committee.
