Dr. Bernhard Trautner

Bernhard Trautner is senior researcher at the German Development Institute’s project on ‘Stabilization and Development in MENA’ since 2015 and professor adjunct for development studies at Tübingen University since 2014. As a civil servant at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development since 2005, he served as desk officer i.a. for Syria, Jordan, and Iraq and as Deputy Head Middle East Department from 2012 to 2015. He worked as Head of bilateral Cooperation at the German Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2008 to 2012, where he was responsible for the coordination with the host government, with other donors, and for the German instruments and development institutions. Recent co-authorships include: “How can development policy help to tackle the causes of flight?” (D.I.E.-Briefing Paper 2/2016), “A new social contract for the countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).” Bonn: German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) (The Current Column of 5 December 2016).
