David Steven

David Steven is a Senior Fellow and Associate Director at New York University's Center on International Cooperation, where he works on development policy and the 2030 Agenda, and leads the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies project. Through this project, UN member states, international organizations, global partnerships, and civil society and private sector actors explore the challenge of delivering the 2030 Agenda targets for peace, justice and inclusion. The Pathfinders launched the first Roadmap for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies at the UNGA meeting in September 2017.
David has published extensively on the 2030 Agenda, focusing on delivery of the new Sustainable Development Goals, and in particular on targets for fostering peaceful, just and inclusive societies. His work also includes the CIC publication Turning Ambition into Reality – Platforms and Partnerships for Delivering Agenda 2030, and in 2014, The Risk Pivot: Great Powers, International Security, and the Energy Revolution, a book written by David Steven and Bruce Jones, was published by Brookings Press. David also served as a Senior External Adviser on the UN-World Bank Flagship Study, Pathways for Peace – Inclusive Approaches to Preventing Violent Conflict, published in September 2017.
David previously served as a Senior Strategic Adviser for the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, helping develop the partnership’s strategy and prepare it for formal launch in 2016. He is on the steering committee for the Global Alliance on Reporting Progress on Promoting Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, is a director of the consultancy River Path Associates, and co-edits the foreign policy website, Global Dashboard.
