Feminist activism in the context of militarised cultures

Feminist activism in the context of militarised cultures

In this roundtable discussion, three contexts of feminist activism in militarised cultures in Russia, Cameroon and Somalia will be explored. We aim to first outline the particularities of each context. Secondly, we draw out the different conceptual frameworks for feminist activism, militarisation and notions of (changing) masculinities in patriarchal structures and war – and look at how these frameworks change and interact. Thirdly, we wish to debate the opportunities and limits of transformational change drawing on different perspectives around the table.

Guiding Questions:

1. What role do feminist activism and militarisation play in your context and work and how do they interact?

2. Where do you see shifts? Where do you see room for and limits of transformation?

Speakers: Laura Anyola Naddin Tufon Ngwa (Justice and Peace Commission, Archdiocese Bamenda), Alexandra (Sasha) Talaver (Activist/Central European University)

Moderation: Joana Stalder (Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, tbc)
