Parallel Session 5 | Reflect | 13.30h - 15.00h | Room 1.02
EU External Politics in the Nexus Peace, Development, and Security
EU External Politics in the Nexus Peace, Development, and Security - What are current trends in EU External Policies in these areas? Peacebuilding and development instruments are increasingly used to finance issues related to security (i.e. combatting terrorism, organized violence, migration) - how to respond to this trend? Which are positive examples in peacebuilding and how can the EU contribute to mechanisms for conflict prevention on a global level?
These questions gain crucial importance, given that fundamental shifts and changes in the financial architecture for external and development issues have been announced. The EU-Commission suggests that the “European Development Fund” and the “Development Cooperation Instrument”, together with the Instruments for “Stability and Peace”, and for “Democracy and Human Rights” should be merged into an overall “external instrument” that would have a “strong focus on migration.” The implications of these plans will also be stressed in this session.
