Peacebuilding Forum 2018

Connect – Reflect – Create:
Enhancing Peacebuilding Together

13-14 June 2018, Berlin

The Working Group on Peace and Development (FriEnt) hosted the fourth FriEnt Peacebuilding Forum in Berlin, 13-14 June 2018.

At the FriEnt Peacebuilding Forum 2018 entitled “Connect – reflect – create: enhancing peacebuilding together” around 230 peacebuilders from German and international civil society organisations and governmental institutions as well as academia gathered for the fourth time in Berlin. The forum created space to highlight new and inspirational ideas for the prevention of violence and sustaining peace.

Today’s conflicts in a deeply interconnected world are more and more internationalized and interlinked. Violence spills-over quickly and is not limited to a certain number of “fragile” states. Violence is not only increasing in numbers around the world, conflicts are also getting more complex and more violent. As the scale and nature of conflict and violence are changing, so must our approach to peacebuilding and prevention at the local, national and global level.

An unprecedented number of international and national policy frameworks reflect these trends. The Agenda 2030, the UN Sustaining Peace Resolutions as well as the new German guidelines on Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding are representing major policy achievements, highlighting prevention as core requirement.

Still, there are lot of challenges when it comes to translating these agendas into local realities - and it will not be enough to pursue business as usual if we want to address these challenges. The FriEnt Peacebuilding Forum 2018 with its motto connect-reflect-create developed new and inspiring ideas, approaches and partnerships.
